Mirka Golden-Hann was born in the former Czechoslovakia. She discovered her fascination with the ceramic process when she came to live in England in Summer 1993.

In July 1999 Mirka graduated from the University of Westminster’s iconic Harrow ceramics course with BA (Hons) and received ‘Best Student’ award at Hatfield House International Festival – Art in Clay later that year. In summer 2000 she set up her first workshop, built an outdoor salt glaze kiln and began her teaching practice alongside her making. Since then, Mirka has exhibited her work in galleries throughout the UK, and participated in prestigious ceramics shows both in the UK and in Europe. In 2009 she completed with distinction her MA Design Ceramics degree at Bath Spa University, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.

In September 2009 Mirka became a Resident Artist at Salisbury Arts Centre, where she continued to build up the legacy of the Salisbury Arts Centre pottery set up by the community in the early 70’s. In 2018 she took on the role of Resident Artist and Head of Visual Arts in the newly formed Wiltshire Creative. Alongside her existing responsibilities for engaging the community in ceramics education she was also running the visual arts exhibitions programme until December 2022.

In 2021 Mirka was approached by Messums West to advise on the setting up of their new community facing teaching studio in Chilmark. Having been involved with the venture from the beginning, she became the head of Messums Studios in 2023.

Mirka is a great believer in the preservation of skills and their application within modern practice. She is an inspirational ceramics teacher and a published maker and researcher whose own work can be found in numerous private collections worldwide.
